Minnesota Avenue is one of the largest historic commercial districts located east of the Anacostia River. Downtown Ward 7, centered where Minnesota Avenue NE meets Benning Road NE, is home to the Art Deco Senator Theater, the recently renovated neighborhood library named after famed Civil Rights and Women’s Rights activist Dorothy I. Heights, and has experienced significant growth with new and planned developments including the mixed-use Park 7 and a revitalized Minnesota Avenue Metro station.
Minnesota Avenue Main Street, a Downtown Ward 7 Initiative, was designated in 2017 and is operated by the Washington Area Community Investment Fund (Wacif).

Minnesota Avenue Main Street Business Resilience Fund
The Minnesota Avenue Main Street (MAMS) has created a grant fund, supported by the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development, to help small businesses along the Minnesota Avenue commercial corridor thrive and prosper in place. MAMS intends to fund a total of $80,000 in grants, with awards of up to $15,000 per small business. Applications are due July 30th and will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the funding is exhausted. Click here to apply.
