Have questions about the hive? We’ve got answers to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.
We’ve already begun hearing from entrepreneurs and small business owners who want to become HIVE members when we reopen the Anacostia Arts Center (“AAC”). Because the number of memberships, particularly private offices and dedicated desks, will be limited, we’re introducing reservation deposits to help us understand demand and plan for a smooth reopening.
A reservation deposit allows interested businesses to secure priority access while helping us identify those who are ready to join the next chapter of the HIVE. Your reservation deposit will be applied toward your first month’s membership dues.
The deposit process is implemented to address the high demand we have seen for businesses interested in becoming a HIVE member. Submitting a deposit alone does not create or guarantee membership. However, once you have been accepted for membership by the AAC and you submit the required reservation deposit, your reservation is intended to guarantee you a place at the membership level you selected (Drop-In Membership, Dedicated Desk, or Private Office) when the HIVE reopens, provided you execute the Membership Agreement within the required timeframe once it is made available in 2027.
Full Membership officially begins after you sign a Membership Agreement near the reopening formally committing to a membership.
You are reserving priority access to becoming a member of the HIVE at the AAC at a specific membership level (Drop-In Membership, Dedicated Desk, or Private Office), subject to acceptance and availability. The reservation deposit does not guarantee a specific desk, office, or physical location within the HIVE; space selection will take place closer to reopening based on the HIVE’s established priority order.
As the reopening gets near, you will be asked to sign a full Membership Agreement at which point will be reserve a specific desk or office.
Your reservation deposit will be applied toward your first month’s membership dues when the HIVE reopens in 2027.
Yes, under certain circumstances. Your reservation deposit will be refunded if the HIVE cannot offer your requested membership type and you do not want an available alternative. If AAC declines to move forward with your reservation after you have been accepted, or if reopening is delayed significantly or cancelled, your deposit will be refunded in full at any point.
If you decide you are no longer interested in holding your spot, your deposit will be refundable if you notify us on or before December 31, 2026.
After you are invited to sign an official Membership Agreement, you will have ten (10) calendar days to do so. If you do not sign within that timeframe, your reservation and reservation deposit will be forfeited.
No. Office and desk selection will take place prior to reopening according to the HIVE’s reservation priority process.
As the reopening gets near, you will be asked to sign a full agreement at which point will be reserving a specific desk or office.
Priority order is: (1) Current active HIVE members and former HIVE members in good standing at the time of the Anacostia Arts Center’s closure; (2) Reservation holders in the order deposits are received.
Construction schedules are estimates and may change. Your reservation will remain active and we will continue providing updates until reopening.
If you decide you are no longer interested in holding your spot, your deposit will be refundable if you notify us on or before December 31, 2026.
Yes. Requests to change membership types will be subject to availability.
As reopening approaches, reservation holders will receive an invitation to sign a Membership Agreement. You’ll have ten (10) calendar days to complete and return it, at which point you will become a dues-paying HIVE member.
Monthly dues will begin on the later of (1) the date you sign your Membership Agreement, or (2) the HIVE’s official reopening date, as announced by AAC once construction is complete. There are no monthly membership payments while the HIVE remains under construction.
The HIVE by WACIF is designed for entrepreneurs looking for more than workspace — a place to connect, grow, and scale alongside other ambitious founders.
