On Wednesday, July 19, Wacif celebrated graduates of the first Ascend.Her Beauty Cohort at Ìpàdé! The program was the first cohort designed by a beauty entrepreneur for beauty entrepreneurs. For this special cohort, we partnered with DMV-based beauty entrepreneur Rahama Wright and her team at the Yeleen Beauty Makerspace to develop a program that was impactful and supportive of local beauty makers. The cohort focused on small business owners who manufacture and/or sell hair care, skin care, and body care products.
“The most important thing that was a takeaway was grasping and understanding who my customer was. Honing in on what my customer wants and how I’ll be able to provide that service to them,” said Rylinda Rhodes, owner of Main Rhodes Soap and Wellness. “I was able to learn that by being in this cohort and having real live conversations about what that looks like.”
Each participating business was awarded a $5,000 grant from Minority Business Development Agency and Walmart!
