Wacif Invited to Speak at Congresswoman’s Event
Washington, D.C. (July 1, 2014)—Wacif Executive Director Timothy Flanagan and small business client Chancée Lundy were invited to join Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton’s small business fair. They discussed obstacles faced by small business owners when accessing capital and the solutions Wacif offers them and how it impacts the larger community. Chancée and her business partner, Veronica Davis found it difficult to obtain funding from traditional lenders after self-funding their business for its first few years. Despite having good credit they were turned down for a loan, again and again. Their story is more common than not which is why Wacif continues to be there for small business owners in need. Tim Flanagan highlighted the fact that it isn’t money alone that Wacif uses to support business owners like Chancée or community organizations and affordable housing developers throughout the region. Business counseling and strong, supportive financial analysis serve as useful tools for Wacif as we help build thriving communities for all. We thank Congresswoman Norton for the opportunity to share our work and our mission with her and her constituents.
